Different angle on sec chat, because my situation isn't typical.
My short checklist for sec chat:
what the chat side of this costs once the intro period ends
whether messaging on the chat side of this works before a card is required
how many sec chat accounts look dormant
I checked services like this on both mobile and desktop and got the same result. Still worth it with messaging platforms of this type if you're only checking in weekly? Hope that saves someone the weeks I lost on sec chat.

I keep seeing sec chat recommended without anyone explaining how the search filters behave in practice. I'd judge the chat side of this entirely on how much of it's usable before you pay and ignore the rest.
Tested these chat services in day-to-day use and the difference showed within days. Has anyone tried the chat side of this outside a major city? Curious whether others found the same on the chat side of this.
Someone here mentioned DateLink's free tier a while back and it was a fair shout.

Going to disagree with Lucas Kelly here. For me, none of sec chat came down to how much of it's usable before you pay at all.
All of this makes more sense once you accept that how much of it's usable before you pay varies wildly across services like this. Worth testing the chat side of this yourself before taking my word for it.

Lucas Kelly makes a reasonable case but I've tested sec chat more recently and it doesn't match.
Things improved for me on services like this the moment I took how much of it's usable before you pay seriously. Worth testing messaging platforms of this type yourself before taking my word for it.
Someone here mentioned EZHookups a while back and it was a fair shout.

Spent about a month testing sec chat properly, so here is what I found.
For messaging platforms of this type I look at:
whether the free tier on the chat side of this includes search filters
whether these chat services exports your data on request
whether the these chat services userbase is real inside your radius
Hope that saves someone the weeks I lost on the chat side of this.

Same as Caleb Sullivan, except sec chat took considerably longer than a week for me.
None of this works with sec chat unless you are patient about how much of it is usable before you pay. Curious whether others found the same on sec chat.

Lucas Kelly, I don't think that holds — on sec chat my experience was the opposite.
Different providers handle services like this inconsistently, mostly because of how much of it's usable before you pay. Still forming a view on these chat services, so push back if I've it wrong.

I'd frame sec chat differently to how the question is worded.
The order I check things with these chat services:
whether the chat side of this shows read receipts on the free tier
whether sec chat lets you filter by intent
how many the chat side of this profiles are actually active this month
That held true for these chat services in day-to-day use, though your mileage may differ. Still worth it with services like this if you're only checking in weekly? I will update this if services like this shifts again.

Same as TerrenceB, except sec chat took considerably longer than a week for me.
For messaging platforms of this type I look at:
how the chat side of this treats a paused account
how the reply rate on sec chat holds after week two
how many these chat services profiles are actually active this month
how sec chat handles photo privacy
Two other people here reported the same thing about these chat services. Is that everyone's experience with services like this, or am I the outlier? Would be interested to hear whether sec chat behaved differently for anyone else.
No card required if you want to see how sec chat works in practice.
