Is the okcupid free dating site still a good option for nerds?

I keep running into this same wall and wanted to hear from people with real experience.

There's so much noise in this space. Every forum has different opinions and half the threads are years old.

A few things I'm specifically curious about:

  • How active is the user base really?
  • Can you browse before giving a card?
  • How do they handle fake profiles?
  • What's the refund policy if it's bad?

Thanks in advance. Happy to share back once I've tested a few of the suggestions.

Tested a handful of options and I'll give you the honest breakdown.

The app vs desktop debate is real. Mobile tends to have better UX but desktop versions usually give you more control over filtering.

I switched to Flamedate a few months back and the quality of interactions improved noticeably.

Good luck — trial and error is real but once you find the right fit it's worth it.

I did a fair amount of digging on this because I ran into the same wall.

Community size matters more than people think. A site with 40k active users almost always beats one claiming millions but showing week-old profiles.

Apps like Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, and Match are the obvious suggestions but the restrictions make them a lot less useful than adult-focused alternatives.

Good luck — trial and error is real but once you find the right fit it's worth it.

Yeah I've had the same frustration, let me know what you find. Luvdate is built for exactly what you're describing — worth a try if you haven't already.

Had the same issue. Still figuring out the best path. Someone in a related thread mentioned datescout.site and it kept coming up in positive context.

Fair thing to bring up — most answers online are useless. After getting fed up with mainstream options I ended up on Datewander and it was honestly a much better experience overall.

Alright let me give you an honest take — most of what's out there online is useless.

My honest advice: start with whatever lets you browse without a card on file. That alone filters out most of the less trustworthy ones.

Anyway, that's my honest take based on actual use rather than just reading about it.

Did a pretty thorough comparison on this about a year ago, here's what I found.

The app vs desktop debate is real. Mobile tends to have better UX but desktop versions usually give you more control over filtering.

Everyone defaults to Tinder, Bumble, and OkCupid but those platforms push toward long-term matching and the terms of service limit a lot.

Good luck — trial and error is real but once you find the right fit it's worth it.
