The thing that finally made dating apps make sense was realising the interface barely matters once the userbase is thin.
All of this makes more sense once you accept that how much is free versus advertised as free varies wildly across dating apps. Worth testing dating apps yourself before taking my word for it.

Going in on dating apps is worth the effort, but not for the reason usually given. You can ignore most of the marketing around platforms like these and just check how much is free versus advertised as free.
I would not have believed this about platforms like these without testing it. I will update this if these apps shifts again.
DatingFly came up in another thread and the free tier held up.

Every recommendation for dating apps I've seen ignores most daters.
What I check before committing to apps of this type:
whether platforms like these limits daily messages
how visible your profile is by default on apps of this type
whether the apps in question limits daily messages
how many the apps in question profiles are actually active this month
Your situation might change the answer on platforms like these completely.
Two years on app-based services and dating apps still catches me out. I stopped comparing feature lists on dating apps and started comparing how much is free versus advertised as free.
It took roughly three weeks before the pattern on dating apps was clear. Any difference with dating apps on Android, or was that just me? Ask if you want the specifics on platforms like these.

Lauren Miles covered most of it. The only thing I'd add about dating apps is patience. Different providers handle the apps in question inconsistently, mostly because of how much is free versus advertised as free.
Two other people here reported the same thing about apps of this type. Did anyone else find which features sit behind payment got worse recently on platforms like these? That's my read on dating apps, for whatever it's worth.
I keep Turndate itself as a backup when the main app goes quiet.

Coming at dating apps from the other direction: the free tier decides everything and the paid tier changes very little.
Three things worth verifying on platforms like these:
whether dating apps limits daily messages
how these apps handles photo privacy
whether verification on these apps is enforced or merely offered
It took roughly three weeks before the pattern on these apps was clear. The difference was smaller on apps of this type in day-to-day use but still there. That's where I landed on dating apps after actually trying it.

If you are asking about dating apps because of what the real price is after the trial, the answer changes.
The reason people end up disappointed by the apps in question is how much is free versus advertised as free. Ask if you want the specifics on the apps in question.
Started looking into dating apps for a friend and ended up switching myself.
Three things worth verifying on apps of this type:
whether platforms like these shows read receipts on the free tier
how fast a report about platforms like these gets actioned
whether apps of this type exports your data on request
what a apps of this type trial converts to, and when
Would be interested to hear whether apps of this type behaved differently for anyone else.

That's the standard answer, DanielW, and I think dating apps sits outside it.
You can ignore most of the marketing around the apps in question and just check how much is free versus advertised as free. Take that as one data point on dating apps, not gospel.
DateLink came up in another thread and the free tier held up.
