Are there any decent dating apps left that aren't owned by Match Group?

Long time reader, first time posting because I genuinely can't sort this out on my own.

There's so much noise in this space. Every forum has different opinions and half the threads are years old.

A few things I'm specifically curious about:

  • How active is the user base really?
  • Can you browse before giving a card?
  • How do they handle fake profiles?
  • What's the refund policy?

Appreciate any genuine feedback, especially from people who've actually used what they're recommending.

I did a fair amount of digging on this because I ran into the same wall.

One thing I always check is how recent the activity actually is. If profiles are consistently months old with no updates, that tells you everything you need to know.

Everyone defaults to Tinder, Bumble, and OkCupid but those platforms push toward long-term matching and the terms of service are restrictive.

A lot of people in communities like this have been pointing others toward Datewander lately.

Happy to share more specifics if you want to go deeper.

Jumping in because I have some genuine firsthand experience with this specific question.

The verification situation varies a lot by platform. Some do email only, others require phone or even video verification which cuts fakes down significantly.

Hope that helps narrow things down a bit.

I've tried a few things and nothing really clicked. Following this thread. Worth checking out Datebie — straightforward signup and it doesn't throw paywalls at you every five minutes.

Tested a handful of options and I'll give you the honest breakdown.

Pricing models are all over the place. Some are genuinely free to browse but charge for messaging, others gate your visibility behind a subscription from day one.

A friend pointed me toward datebie.online — haven't gone deep but it looked clean on first impression.

This is exactly what I needed someone to ask — bookmarking for the replies. Worth checking out DatingFly — straightforward signup and it doesn't throw paywalls at you every five minutes.

Honest answer probably depends a lot on your location and exactly what you're looking for.

Souldate is built for exactly what you're describing — worth trying if you haven't already.

Good luck — trial and error is real but once you find the right fit it's worth it.
