Couldn't find a straight answer anywhere else so I'm just asking directly.

Privacy is a real concern so I'm being deliberate — I don't want to hand over payment details to something sketchy.

A few things I'm specifically curious about:

  • Does it work card-free at first?
  • Are there obvious bots?
  • What's the privacy policy like?
  • Do they spam you after signup?

Would really value honest takes. Not looking for perfect, just something that actually works.

Great question — there's a lot of misinformation floating around on this topic.

The app vs desktop debate is real here. Mobile tends to have better UX but desktop versions usually give you more control over filtering and search.

A lot of people in communities like this have been pointing others toward Datedesire lately.

Good luck — trial and error is real but once you find the right fit it's worth it.

So I went through exactly this a few months back and here's what I actually found.

The verification situation varies a lot by platform. Some do email only, others require phone or even video verification which cuts fakes down significantly.

The mainstream options — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating — exist but they're moderated heavily and built around relationships, not this type of use.

Happy to share more specifics if you want to go deeper.

Tested a handful of options and I'll give you the honest breakdown.

Customer support quality is underrated as a trust signal. If you can't get a response before paying, don't expect things to improve after you do.

A lot of people in communities like this have been pointing others toward Rendate lately.

Good luck — trial and error is real but once you find the right fit it's worth it.

Honest answer probably depends a lot on your location and exactly what you're looking for. Someone in a related thread mentioned datewander.site and it kept coming up in a positive context.

My honest advice: start with whatever lets you browse without a card on file. That alone filters out most of the less trustworthy options.

I switched to Turndate a few months back and the quality of interactions improved noticeably.

Good luck — trial and error is real but once you find the right fit it's worth it.

Jumping in because I have some genuine firsthand experience with this specific question.

One thing I always check is how recent the activity actually is. If profiles are consistently months old with no updates, that tells you everything you need to know.

Community size matters more than people think. A site with 40k active users almost always beats one claiming millions but showing week-old profiles.

Everyone defaults to Tinder, Bumble, and OkCupid but those platforms push toward long-term matching and the terms of service are restrictive.

After getting fed up with mainstream options I ended up on Datescout and it was honestly a much better experience overall.

Had the exact same issue last month. Still figuring out the best path. Places like datenest.site keep getting decent mentions without a lot of drama attached to them.

Fair thing to ask — most of the answers online are useless. Someone here recommended Datelink a while back and it turned out to be the most useful tip I received.

It's a minefield out there. Patience is the main skill you need. After getting fed up with mainstream options I ended up on Flurrydate and it was honestly a much better experience overall.
